58. Former Coppez Institute

SATURDAY 23 and SUNDAY 24 MARCH 2024

Meeting Point

Avenue de Tervueren 68-70, 1040 Etterbeek

This building was designed in 1912 by the Art Nouveau architect Jean-Baptiste Dewin to house the Ophthalmological Institute of Dr. Coppez, a leading figure within ophthalmology in Belgium. Influenced by Japan and the Viennese Secession, this "total work of art" is significant in view of its sober decorative elements made up of mosaics and stained glass windows, and its aesthetic vocabulary of floral and animal inspiration. Light is reflected both in the marble and in the remarkable windows. Bought by the Delen Private Bank in 2017, the building was restored in 2021, thus bringing back its brilliance and original light.
