43. Van Bruystegem House

SATURDAY 22 and SUNDAY 23 MARCH 2025

Meeting Point

Rue Timmermans 66, 1190 Forest

Designed in 1924 by François Van Meulecom, this bourgeois house has an elegantly symmetrical façade. A former student and then main collaborator of Jean-Baptiste Dewin, a leading figure in geometric Art Nouveau and Art Deco, Van Meulecom built many homes in the Brussels Region that are still in existence: mansions, apartment buildings and social housing. This particularly well preserved residence, built for a certain Alphonse Bruystegem and his wife, attests to what might be called "Art Deco without ostentation", a style typical of many houses in the Altitude Cent area. Inhabited by a passionate owner, it is brought to life by Art Deco objects and furniture patiently collected from the four corners of Europe.
