65. Villa Collart-Van Gobbelschroy
The Collart-Van Gobbelschroy house at 6, Avenue des Fleurs, is an Art Deco gem designed by the architect Jean-Baptiste Dewin, who is best known for his healthcare buildings, such as the former Coppez Institute and Dr Depage's Surgical Institute. Nevertheless, Dewin also designed a number of grand private houses spread across Brussels. This superb villa is one of them, and it was commissioned by Mr Collart-Van Gobbelschroy in 1927. The facade is sober and balanced and, in a typical Dewin touch, the entrance porch is decorated with stylised pelicans. Inside, different types of marble, Art Deco furniture, stained-glass windows, door handles and even hinges combine to create a harmonious atmosphere, coloured with mahogany and jade green. A superb new addition to the BANAD Festival that is bound to create a lasting impression on visitors.
