34. St. Augustin Church
Built between 1932 and 1936 and designed by the architects Léon Guianotte and André Watteyne, this Art Deco church in the form of a Greek cross boasts a reinforced concrete structure and a bell tower at the exact convergence of the eight streets which extend from the Altitude Cent square. Dilapidated and threatened with demolition, it was fortunately listed in 1988 and restored in 1996-97. Moreover, further work to reinforce and restore the building is planned. The interior, bathed in yellow-orange light, is striking due to its unusual volumes and slender bell tower. The visit gives access to the top of the tower (by stairs) which offers an exceptional view of Brussels and its surrounding area.
